Andes to the Amazon

(Bike & Boat)

10 Days 9 Nights 

1 September -31 December

 

Go where few have gone before and ride from the high tops of the Andes to the deep depths of the jungle with all the incredible breathtaking scenery you can only find in the Andes. Bring your camera and a notebook. This is a trip you’ll be telling the grandkids about!

 

 

 

DAY 1:  

  • Arrive into Soa Paulo

  • Take Transfer from airport to Quality Moema

  • Check in and spend the night 

 

DAY 2

  • Have breakfast at hotel.

  • Check out. Transfer back to airport

  • Fly to La Paz

  • Arrive and transfer from airport to Hotel Europa.

  • Check in and spend the night

  • Have breakfast and take transfer to Sorata

DAY 3

  • Arrive: Sorata

  • After an early morning meet up, you have a scenic drive out to Sorata, located at the base of the mountains Illampu, 6,368m and Janq’u Uma, 6,427m. Depending on the experience of the group, you may try a slightly challenging ride or ride the sealed road, both of which are lots fun! On arrival in Sorata, make way to the hotel (Altai Oasis or Las Piedras)

  • Meet in the resturant at 7:30 for Dinner & informal debrief

DAY 4 

  • Depart:  AndesFull day in Siracusa.

  • Arrive:  Consata

  • Meet in the café at 6 am for a fresh healthy hearty breakfast. The  driver will meet you at 6:30am.(2 hour drive)  to the starting point in the high Andes

  • Today’s ride will drop over 4,000m over 65km on a 4x4 “two-track” road. It is a huge downhill, one of the biggest  in the world. There are some climbs and flat sections. Much of the road is pretty smooth, but there are some rough rocky sections. The jeep follows behind the group for support.If anything is too tough, you can take a ride in the 4x4. A stop at a petite picturesque village for lunch. From there the road condition is better and quicker to ride. Lower altitude, more oxygen making it far easier to breath, plus it is getting much warmer.Food market tour: Fresh Produce, ingredients, Utensils (that are well know in the area, fresh fish in the harbour) beans, flours for pasta/bread

  • Over night stay in humble accommodation in Consata.

 

DAY 5 

  • Depart: Consata

  • Arrive: Mapiri

  • Breakfast at 7:30. Board the 4x4’s for a short hour’s drive  along the river’s edge. You are in the  belly of the jungle! Explore the occasional impressive waterfalls and glimpses of the river. You ride the undulating road deeper into the jungle.Stop alongside a clear jungle river for swimming, wash the bikes and enjoy snacks of chocolate, fruit and beverages. From here, another climb (with vehicles) before riding to the accommodation in Mapiri. After a shower (cold) enjoy dinner in town.Visit a local oil farm and do a tasting

  • Rest, reflect and prepare for the river portion of the trip.

 

DAY 6 

  • Duration: 4 hours

  • Depart: Rio Mapiri 

  • Arrive: First river camp

  • After breakfast,  make a short walk down to the Rio Mapiri to find the longboat

  • waiting, packed with all the gear, board and head off down the river. Approximately 4 hours of boating. Enjoy side hikes, fishing and getting to know locals. A 2.5 hour boat ride, winding down the lush canyons to the gold boom town of Guanay for lunch at a local restaurant. Explore and load supplies for the rest of the river trip of 1.5 hours to the first river camp.

  • You can hike to a lookout while the cook is preparing dinner!
     

DAY 7:

  • Duration: 4 hours

  • Depart:  First river camp

  • Arrive: Madidi National Park

  • After breakfast (7 am) pack & pull down the camp. Hike for 1 hour to a waterfall & pool for a swim. Return to camp, board the boat and head downstream. Lunch is served on the boat. You will pass several active gold mines before entering Madidi National Park. After breakfast (7 am) pack & pull down the camp. Hike for 1 hour to a waterfall & pool for a swim. Return to camp, board the boat and head downstream. Lunch is served on the boat. You will pass several active gold mines before entering Madidi National Park.

  • Enjoy dinner while deciding on the evening activity.  Light the fire, toast marshmallows/ play cards or tell stories.

 

DAY 8:

  • Duration: 5 hours

  • Depart: Madidi National Park

  • Arrive: Rurrenabaque

  • Breakfast at 7 am. Hike for 2 hours through the lush rainforest. Head off to Rurrenabaque down the river for 3 hours.Lunch in the boat.

  • Arrival time around 2-3 pm where the trip ends

DAY 9:

  • Take a transfer back to the Hotel Europa

  • Check in and spend the night

DAY 10:

  • Have breakfast at hotel.

  • Check out and depart for airprort
