Cycling from Saigon to Angkor Wat

10 Nights /  11 Days 

September 2019 - December 2019


An adventurous yet leisurely journey from the commercial capital of Ho Chi Minh City through the countryside of the Mekong Delta and crossing the boarder to Cambodia’s capital. A slower paced travel journey that allows insight to the lives of locals, while escorted by local expert guides and overland travel via private vehicles, cruise and bicycles!

Itinerary in detail

DAY 1:

  • Arrive: Saigon

  • Upon arrival in Saigon you are welcomed by your guide and driven to the hotel for check-in. The guide will do a quick briefing about the programme, before taking you on a walking orientation tour of the old Saigon and its beautiful colonial buildings. Spend the evening at leisure.

  • Bike fitting and set - up.

  • Carbo loading – Noodle dinner / fun interaction or making your own noodles.

DAY 2:

  • Distance: 70 km approx / Accent: 900m

  • Depart:  Saigon

  • Arrive:  Vinh Long

  • Depart in the morning with a car transfer to the doorstep of the Mekong delta in the region of My Tho (approx. 75 km drive) The ride starts on the less travelled roads to the Mekong Delta. This region is rural. After 20 km, stop for a light picnic lunch in a garden café. In the afternoon, head South for about 40 km, passing from one island of the mighty river to another one by ferryboat.  Arrive at the local guesthouse where you will get set up for the night.

DAY 3:

  • Distance: 60 km approx. / Accent: 750m

  • Depart: Vinh Long

  • Arrive: Can Tho

  • Head South to a region called Tam Binh.  Ride on the back roads of the Delta and immerse fully into the tranquil atmosphere. Enjoy en route, stops for drinks.  Lunch is served in a local house en route to Tra On. Embark onto a boat in Tra On and cruise the Hau River upstream to Can Tho City. It is a relaxing 1.5-hour cruise to the biggest metropolis of the Delta. Disembark in Can Tho and transfer to the hotel

  • Check - in and evening at leisure

  • Spa evening – leg and body massage

DAY 4:

  • Distance: 60 km approx / Accent:  400m

  • Depart: Can Tho

  • Arrive: Long Xuyen

  • Wake up early for a boat trip to visit the Cai Rang floating market. Return to the hotel, have breakfast and get ready to ride on the winding roads along the Hau River. Head northwest to Long Xuyen, not touristy at all but rich from fishing, rice and cashew nut trading. En-route stop at a stork sanctuary, a 1.3hectare bird sanctuary with astonishing views of thousands of resident storks and snowy egrets. End ride with an arrival in Long Xuyen in the afternoon.

  • Settle in a comfortable but very “local style” hotel

DAY 5:

  • Distance: 50 km approx / Accent:  950m

  • Depart: Long Xuyen

  • Arrive: Chau Doc

  • After Breakfast travel 60 km (West) to the starting point. En-route stop by the Ba Chuc memorial. Keep rolling along the Cambodian border to the Tra Su cajuput forest. Explore the nature reserve and bird sanctuary before end up our ride to Chau Doc.  

  • Upon arrival, check - in at the hotel and enjoy the end of the day at leisure


DAY 6:

  • Speedboat

  • Arrive: Phnom Penh

  • Depart: 7:00 am

  • Travel time is more or less 4 and a half hour to reach Cambodia’s capital. Transfer from the pier to the hotel,drop the luggage and go out for a first introduction to Khmer Cuisine.  Afternoon check-in at the hotel and hop on rickshaw for an orientation tour of the city.  Evening at leisure. Go for a stroll along the river.

  • Spa evening – leg massage

DAY 7:

  • Distance: 15 km approx / Accent:  50m

  • Depart: Phnom Penh

  • Arrive: Koh Dach –Siem Riep

  • Morning transfer to the riverbanks to catch a ferry to Koh Dach, known as “Silk island” Pedal through rustic scenic villages, silk weaving workshops, pagodas and meet friendly local people along the way. Later drive to Siem Reap (6 hours) stop en-route for lunch.

  • Arrival in the late afternoon at the hotel.

  • Check - in and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.

DAY 8:

  • Distance: 40 km approx / Accent:  50m

  • Depart: Cycle around the Angkor temples

  • Head out with your cameras for a day filled with amazing sights and experiences. Explore the amazing temple complex and spend most of the day in the UNESCO, World Heritage site of Angkor. Cycle to the ancient city of Angkor Thom, surrounded by an 8m high wall.  Explore Angkor Wat, easily the most famous and best-preserved of all temples within the Angkor complex.

  • Farewell & Awards Dinner with group photos

DRESSCODE: Appropriate attire when visiting Angkor temples is long pants (covering the knee) and shirts that cover shoulders. Skirts,
small shorts, tank tops, and other items of revealing clothing are not allowed within temple grounds. Visitors can and are frequently turned
away from temples when wearing revealing clothing.


DAY 9:

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Spend Rest of day at leisure & spend the night


DAY 10:

  • Breakfast at hotel.

  • Transfer from hotel to airport. Catch internal flight to Saigon. Spend time at leisure. Overnight in Saigon.


DAY 11:

  • Morning in Saigon. Transfer back to Saigon airport (Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport). Flight to Guangzhou. Depart on International flight from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport back home.
