Ecuador Birding Experience

10 Nights / 11 Days      

       12 - 23 June 2020             


Ecuador is a country straddling the equator on South America’s west coast. Its diverse landscape encompassing Amazon jungle, Andean highlands and the wildlife-rich Galápagos Islands result in one of the highest bird counts in the world namely 1691

Offering species with 33 endemics.  Its varied habitats and tropical gardens and jungles allows the visitor to experience firsthand the beauty of this South American paradise and all its creatures providing many opportunities to capture pictures of a lifetime.

Itinerary in detail

Day 1:

Arrive:  Quito

Settle in and do a recce of the area

Day 2:

Depart: Quito

Arrive:  Northern Andes 

Travel to Bellavista Cloud lodge in the Northern Andes International bird and Biodiversity area(IBA) Use this as a base to visit parks and gardens of the region such as the Angel Paz reserve


Day 3:

Northern Andes 

Continue to explore this high lying area


Day 4:

Depart: Northern Andes

Arrive:   Amazonian 

Move down into the true jungle areas and onto Sani lodge which will be the base for the next few days of jungle exploration either by foot or boat depending on the weather conditions.


Day 5:


Explore the various key birding and landscape sites.  Sites are chosen for best birding and to experience this special environment.


Day 6:


Continue exploring the area


Day 7:

Depart:  Amazonian 

Arrive:  Shiripuno Amazon lodge


Day 8:


Explore this area


Day 9:

Depart:  Shiripuno Amazon lodge

Arrive:  Southern Andes 

Move onto the final Southern Andes region and the Podocarpus National Park


Day 10:

Depart:  Southern Andes 

Arrive:  Quitto

Travel back to Quito exploring the various landscapes and bird areas en route.

Tour Price Includes

  • Accommodation in twin/double room
    check in and check out around noontime

    1-2 pax: car of 7 seats

What you should bring along on your experience:

(lead by an experienced facilitator)

  1. Binoculars:
    8 or 10 x preferably waterproof (10x42 Vortex available) with a comfortable neck strap or harness

  2. Camera:
    From basic, through Bridge cameras to SLR’s

    * Always good to have at least 2 cameras
    * Large capacity memory cards preferably 2 to 3 per       camera
    * Spare batteries and charger
    * Flash but not essential
    * Lens wipes
    * Assorted filters ie Polarizing, warm etc but not essential

  3. Lens:
    For landscapes, flowers etc around 35 mm
    * Wide angle preferably a 
    zoom with range up to around       150  mm
    *For wildlife and birds a lens that you can easily carry on tour ie a zoom or prime min 400 mm eg 100-400 Zoom

  4. Backpack:
    Suitable to carry on the plane and on tour preferably waterproof
     for above equipment.
    * Cabin baggage should have a maximum 
    length of 56 cm (22 inches), width of 45 cm (18 inches) and depth of 25 cm (10 inches) including all handles, side pockets, wheels etc.

  5. Waterproof bag
